Winter-sun in Barcelona at the weekend!
February 2nd, 2007The sun does not only shine in the summer in Barcelona! 
It is 15.30 hours on this beautiful, warm and sunny WINTER FRIDAY AFTERNOON in the city! The feeling of walking out into the city and feeling the sun on your face at this time of year is incredible.
I´ve just returned to my desk after a few errands at lunchtime, during which I spotted FLIP FLOPS already, on the feet of passers-by. FLIP FLOPS IN WINTER!??! YA-HOOOO! Perhaps they were tourists, or perhaps they were warm-blooded Scandinavians, who are used to minus temps but who now live here and are truly in the mood for summer already! In any case there´s an attitude in the air at the moment and it is a shining, shimmering, summery one!! I imagine we will see more flip flops and sandals on the streets this weekend!
There is officially no further need to wrap up in a scarf and hat and do star jumps to keep warm (although you might spot a few Spaniards still doing so). The brief winter days have passed already and I shall be taking out my sunglasses and going for a stroll along the beach tomorrow morning.
This is a note to anyone who is thinking of spending this weekend, or a weekend in Barcelona soon! You may wish to consider the beautiful weather, the chance to see a wonderful city and the chance to catch a few winter sun-rays to boost your energy!
In Barcelona, it is in fact, BEACH TIME all year-round. If you are new here in Barcelona and you fancy a weekend outdoors, whilst staying in the centre, then you could consider hiring a bicycle and seeing the city that way. There are several places to hire bike´s in the city, but one of the most popular is ‘FAT TIRE’.
The temperatures have been crazy this winter, but I am not complaining! If I can wake up and open the balcony doors to a brilliant morning sunshine, then I couldn´t wish for much more from daily life! I realise there is a higher agenda and worldwide fears of global warming, but with regards to living for the moment, then I would recommend the winter-sun in Barcelona!
