The sun is shining…but it’s a grey day in Barcelona

February 22nd, 2007

As Bob Marley sang in one of his songs… “the sun is shining and the weather is sweet”, but not all days in Barcelona are good days. Actually, today is one of the saddest ones I remember.

As I’m sure you know, Barça lost yesterday the most important game of the season up until now. I cannot say that Barça didn’t play well, but our players were supposed to be more intelligent and show their experience playing in these sorts of games. However, what I saw yesterday is a naïve team that couldn’t manage a positive result of 1-0, at home, in Camp Nou. I cannot understand how Barça could let Liverpool score 2 goals…the defence yesterday was horrible and forwards such as Ronaldinho or Saviola hadn’t had a good day. And where was Eto’o?? Eto’o was in the stand, not in the starting team or even on the bench.

Do you know what the funniest thing is? Both goals of Liverpool were scored by Bellamy and Riise…yes, the same two players who were fighting with each other some days ago in Algarve, Portugal. I heard that Bellamy struck Riise because he didn’t want to sing a song in a karaoke bar. Yes, I know what you’re thinking…it’s these two players have taken Barça to the brink of elimination!!

So yesterday, I was planning to celebrate the victory in “Las Ramblas”, but at 22h30 I was already in the bed. I didn’t want to watch any programs related with football…I just went to bed and I said to myself that tomorrow will be another day. And yes, today is a horrible day guys. Walking to work this morning, I passed a lot of people, you should have seen the looks on their faces…I’m sure they were still thinking about yesterday’s game, as I was. You can be sure that my walk to work this morning wasn’t like a normal day. I didn’t even take one of the numerous free newspapers they offer on the street…I don’t want to read anything about it.

I don’t want to be very pessimist…but all Barça supporters have to accept the fact that we will only be fighting this year for the Spanish League, unless we get a miracle.

My recommendation for today?? Don’t read the newspapers and don’t watch TV…just go around the city as normal or even go to the beach, and enjoy the weather we have here. It’s not all bad news today ;)

    Hi, hi, hi! Goooooooooooo reds!

“You’ll never walk alone!” The immortal words sung by the faithful who stand proud on the Kop at Anfield. It is with those words ringing in my ears that I write this. Last night the Mighty Reds showed the rest of europe how beat the great Barcelona in their own backyard. The second leg will be amazing but I know the reds will triumph.

After converting from a mad Liverpool fan in my teens to a Barça fan (I know it’s criminal!!) because I live here, I found last night a little strange. I must admit i wasvery disappointed that after one of the best goals of the competition so far (in my opinion) à la Zambrotta/Deco, Barça just seemed to fall to pieces. I don’t hold much hope for the return leg, Anfield can be a very forbidding place for those of non-scouse descent!!

Don’t worry Iñaki! Barça only needs to play well for 90 minutes to get rid of these red kids!
The problem is that I haven’t seen Barça play well for a whole match this season…

  5. Mund Says:

Janine how could you do it… turning your back on the Mighty Reds. It brings a tear to my eyes just thinking about it. I have to stop now as I am too upset!

  6. Iñaki Says:

Hi Jordi! I don’t trust too much in our players…but we have to try it!We’ll see what happens.
