The Bargain Battle begins!!!!!
January 11th, 2007I’ve done it, I’ve finally done it!!!!! I faced what is possibly the scariest and most exciting time of the year in Barcelona (if you´re a woman)… THE WINTER SALES!
I decided this year that I wouldn’t wait until things had ‘calmed down’ and I instead went down to the shops on the first day of the sales, January 6th. Of course, it turns out that EVERYBODY else in Barcelona had the very same idea!
Barcelona has some amazing shopping possibilities and so I completely understand why people would want to make the most of the 40 and 50 % discounts!
At one point, I thought I was getting into a fight with a little old lady with a very large bag! It would seem that we both noticed the same pillow cases at the same time (I´m almost 30 and I think I´m going through my houseproud stage - gotta think of these things) but, from past experience, I let the bargain go, feeling that my health was more important!
There are many different shopping centres in Barcelona with shops selling everything from shoes to furniture to jewellery, well almost anything, on the same campus. But I’m not a big fan of these kinds of commercial centres and I prefer taking advantage of the hundreds of cozy narrow streets in the old town of Barcelona. ‘Portal de Angel’ leads down from Plaza Catalunya towards the Cathedral. Here you can buy some really beautiful handmade goods, fantastically delicious chocolates and funky clothes.
Nearly all of the shops have some kind of discount at the moment and the sales will last until the end of January, so that’s almost a whole month of Bargain hunting!! I’m all shopped out, so will get my rest until August, when it all happens again!
