Secret tips for day trips from Barcelona!
February 26th, 2007
Are you looking for a beautiful spot by the sea? If you are here in Barcelona for a while and you want to explore the area, or to go somewhere new for a day, then there are so many options and the choice is often really difficult!
If you visit any tourist information office or website then you will find out about the most common day trips and the most popular tourist attractions in Catalunya, such as a visit to the magical mountains of Monserrat, or to the nearby Dali museum in Figueres, or a short train ride to the pretty nearby city of Girona.
However, situated right on the Cap de Creus peninsula around 30 minutes from the French border, the enchanting white village of Cadaqués is one of the most symbolic places on the Costa Brava and quite a well-kept secret!
The historic quarter of the beautiful town has a Mediterranean air and deep seaside flavour. It is a great idea for a quieter getaway from bustling Barcelona, or for a romantic trip for two! The rocky coast of Cadaqués, with its beautiful beaches and quiet coves, forms the town´s main attraction, together with the incredible surrounding landscape – which is part of the Cap de Creus Natural Park.
Cadaqués was a source of inspiration for internationally famous painters and artists for decades and today tourists from all over the world are escaping for a day in this enchanting town! Since Salvador Dali moved to Cadaqués, his stay in this village attracted the attention of many other artists, like Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp and Luis Bunuel - so today there is an intense cultural life in Cadaqués, with many museums and art galleries, among which the Salvador Dalí House-Museum is outstanding!
If you don’t have a car you can get to Cadaqués by train or bus. By train: take a train to Figueres from Barcelona (from “Passeig de Gracia” train Station). Once there you have to take a bus from the bus station (in front of the railway station) to Cadaqués (45 minutes). By bus: Either you can get to Figueres and from there you can take the bus to Cadaqués. Or there’s actually a bus Barcelona-Cadaqués from the “Estacio del Nord”, the main bus station in Barcelona. The company that runs the buses is called “Sarfa”. There are two buses all year round, and some additional ones in the summer!
Speaking of the SUMMER, with the weather we are having here lately, I will be making a trip to Cadaqués again, as soon as possible! Ask anyone who has been already and they will give you a dreamy look and tell you that it is a beautiful place! So remember to take your camera!
