Port Aventura - Barcelona’s answer to Disneyland!

March 27th, 2007

One of my favourite places in Catalonia is Port Aventura, which re-opened its’ doors last week after the usual winter hibernation.

This theme park, located on the Catalan coast (about one hour south of Barcelona, next to Tarragona), is apparently one of the most important in Europe! I don’t claim to be the authority when it comes to them parks but I’ve been to Port Aventura loads of times now, and I think it’s fab!

It’s a huge venue, made up of 5 different areas – Mediterranea, China, Mexico, Polynesia and the Far West, and in each area all the rides are based on that area’s theme.

For example, in the Far West you can find the Grand Canyon rapids and Silver River Flume.

My favourite ride is called The ‘Dragon Khan’, which is a massive rollercoaster with 8 loops, in the ‘China’ area of the park. I went last summer with some friends, there were about 12 of us, and we went on this ride about 6 or 7 times, which is no mean feat considering the size of the thing (and the size of the queue!!).
I’m hoping to go again in the next couple of weeks before it starts to get busy. It’s a nice excuse to get away and to behave like a child all day!
