My weekend sampling Barcelona’s Nightlife!

April 2nd, 2007

I have been living in Barcelona for nearly 6 months now, and what I really like about the city is that it is incredibly multi-cultural. Besides the great Catalan/Spanish culture, I have got in touch with a large group of people from different parts of the world. Barcelona attracts people from from all over and the fact is that when you come to Barcelona for a longer period you will make friends from many different cultures and nationalities which is a great experience!

For instance last week I decided together with some friends, colleagues and acquaintances to plan a great Saturday night. The evening started off by having a nice dinner at my place, everyone brought food, snacks and drinks typical from their own country and since we were 16 people from 10 different countries there was a wide variation of food & drinks. There were some dishes I had never eaten before, but it was delicious - pasta, potato, rice, couscous, salad, soup, fish and chicken.

So I think you can imagine how full I was after tasting some of the amazing deserts they brought. I myself made some baked rice with a chicken and vegetable tender spicy sauce, luckily it was a success and a lot of people had never had something like it before.

After the dinner we watched the Barça – Deportivo match while having a big Cuban cigar and some really nice Cuban dark rum (we are so lucky to have a Cuban friend in our group) and listening to some funky house played at the background.

After the match ended we celebrated Barça’s victory at my favourite Plaza called ‘Plaza Real’. In this area there are so many bars that is it hard to decide which one to go first. Most of them I don’t remember the names of because there are soooo mnay, but I do remember Club 13, which is in the corner of the square, and hasreally weird decor, like something out of a David Lynch movie!

Then it was time to dance!! Our Catalan friend Fernando arranged for us to get on the guest list for club called Catwalk, which is located at the wonderful area of Port Olympic close to the beach!

I can recommend this area to everyone who likes going out, there is something for everyone. There are bars, pubs, lounge clubs, restaurants and larger clubs like Baja beach, Shoko and the famous lounge club Carpe Diem, which is owned by the Dutch football player Patrick Kluivert. There is also a casino located just in front of the boulevard, so next time I think that I will start the evening trying my luck at the blackjack table!

Club Catwalk was amazing! There are two large areas in which the House and RnB sounds bounced of the speakers. Since I love both of these music styles I was totally in my element and switched from room to room a lot of times. The club is decorated in a very modern style and in the summer a lot of famous DJ’s perform there. The atmosphere is really laid back and for the guys reading this there are a lot of HOT girls ;)

The club stayed open until 5am, so those of us left decided to head in to the centre for some breakfast. It was another fantastic Barcelona night!!

¡Hasta la Proxima!
