Mountains in Catalunya

December 13th, 2006

If you are visiting Barcelona do not forget to see the beautiful mountainous surroundings in Catalunya! Just 2 hours away from the city you can find the wilderness right next door with hundreds of different routes and places to enjoy.

If you like trekking in an astonishing landscape you have come to the right spot on earth! One of my favourite places is Pedraforca, a small tiny little village just 2, 5 hours away from Barcelona.

There are various campings situated on the base of the rocky mountain of Pedraforca, where you can rent small cottages or camping places, as it might be convenient to stay a couple of days if you want to have enough time to see everything. There are several marked routes with different levels of difficulty.

The circular route that most of the people choose to do is to climb to the top of the mountain and as you walk you then have the chance to see a whole range of different types of nature – leaf and pine forest, steep rocks and on the top also open, stony landscape. Be careful on the top because it is easy to twist your ankles on the sharp stones. Comfortable shoes and warm clothing is necessary.
