Living and working in Barcelona

November 9th, 2006

Living and working in Barcelona through the summer AND the winter is something you need to experience if you are the kind of person who is inspired by culture and moved by art and, like me, if you are always looking to discover new places and to meet new people. I had lived before in a new country every year for 6 years, studying and learning to speak various Germanic languages, but the fact that I have remained in Barcelona for the past 3 years now tells me that there are still things I obviously have to do here and things still to be sussed-out about the city!

There is beauty in the most ordinary things in Barcelona. If you go out for a meal you end up sitting in a gorgeous city plaza, or by the beach with a view out to sea, or in a bustling traditional TAPAS bar – www.tallerdetapas.com - trying to work out what kind of fish those squidgy things are! If you want cheap and tasty food, you could also head for Gracía, with all of the little cafés and bars on C/Verde. Close by you can combine dinner with a theatre visit in the CAFÉ TEATRE on C/Terol! This is a really cosy and very trendy place to sit and drink a glass of wine, excellent to combine it with a trip to the theatre or cinema before or afterwards!

Another of my most favourite cafés for a delicious lunch is the café in the beautiful patio of the Barcelona Textile Museum in the city centre. The museum is small and houses amazing jewellery made in the 12th and 13th centuries! The adjacent café´s website is: www.textilcafe.com and they have some great sandwiches as well as snacks. On the other hand, if you want to splash out and impress, then you can visit the restaurant AGUA on the beach, close to the 2 towers. Here you can wine and dine outside by the beach even in winter. I was there in November and customers were queuing for tables in the sun. There is something very relaxing and romantic about dining with the sound of the waves in the background and there was also a busker playing the saxophone! If you do not fall in love with the person you are with, then you can fall in love with the restaurant!

    Kelly,

Nice post. I usually stay near the Puerto Olimpico when I visit Barcelona.

Is there a restaurant you can recommend in that area - not too pricey, good Spanish food, please!
