INTERACTIVE THEATRE IN BARCELONA
March 14th, 2007
The theatre is one of those things that most people really enjoy, but almost never go to! I still don´t know why! However, if you have a Saturday evening off, I strongly recommend that you go to one of my favourite theatres here in Barcelona! The Theatre Neu is situated in the ‘Gracia’ district and they really do put on loads of great plays.
When I went with my boyfriend and some friends a couple of weeks ago, there was an INTERACTIVE show being staged. My boyfriend´s colleagues had informed him that, if we wanted to get a discount for the tickets, then all we had to do was tell the person in the ticket booth A RHYME!! So, when it came to our turn at the front of the queue, filled with the fear of perhaps being the victims of a practical joke, we shyly whispered “Apostaré apostaré …y las entradas ganaré!” to the woman on the other side of the glass! There was a doubtful pause until she finally gave us a grin and the well-deserved half-price discount for our effort!!
I had never been to an interactive show before, so it was curious when the first thing that we had to do before entering the auditorium, was to write any sentence that came into our heads at that moment, on a small white piece of paper. The sentences which all members of the audience had written down, were used later on as the guidelines for the play. As you might imagine, some inventions were wilder and more creative than others, so the admirable actors had to use all of their skills to instantaneously figure out how to use these concepts, whilst at the same time being funny. I assure you that it was truly hilarious! And I got the opportunity to practice my Spanish as well!
Luckily, most of us avoided being dragged up on the stage, except for one guy who´s birthday was that very same day! He was welcomed by 200 people singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him, so I think he was quite chuffed!
So if you have some time one evening, then the theatre is waiting for you!
