FANCY SHOPPING IN THE ROCAVILLAGE
March 20th, 2007
Do you consider yourself a fashion victim? I wouldn’t say that those people who know me would describe me as a shopping addict. Well, actually, the truth is I am more the kind of person who waits until it is ABSOLUTELY necessary to buy some clothes for practical reasons! - Anything to avoid drowning in the sea of shopping-crazy people. So, when my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to spend my precious, sunny, Saturday afternoon in a huge shopping centre just outside Barcelona I was a bit reluctant at first, but then I changed my mind.
The place is called Roca Village and it is situated about 40 minutes from the city, close to the area of ‘Cerdanyola de Vallés’. It is – believe it or not – a FALSE village :-), built just to meet customer’s needs for fashionable clothing at cut-down prices! The first thought I had on seeing the picturesque pastel-coloured facades of the small houses, with small shops in the ground floor and the little squares filled with people sitting and enjoying their lunch in the sun-shine, was that this must be a very peaceful place to live!
As you look more closely, past the flowers, plants and curtains in the windows, you see that there is, infact, nobody living on the second floor of the houses. The whole village just gives the appearance of being real and the whole place is actually a mini-Disneyland for shoppers, filled with the stores of the top brands and names in the fashion industry! You can find clothes and accessories by Gucci, Hugo Boss, Adolfo Dominguez, Camper, Diesel, Billabong, Calvin Klein… well the list goes on and you get the idea! The prices in the village are supposed to be really cheap (everything is relative I guess), more like outlet shopping, but with my moderate budget I was happy just to do some window shopping to admire all the fancy things you can buy.
Even if you are not an expert shopper, or if you normally prefer the smaller names and shops, I can definitively see the joy in spending a couple of hours in this curious artificial village. So happy shoppng!

So how would be the best way to get to this secret little village of shopping bliss?

There are regular bus services from Barcelona
from Monday to Friday. Sagalés runs a bus service from Fabra i Puig Bus Station (Barcelona) to La Roca. Or you can take a taxi which might be a little bit expensive…the trip from the centre probably takes about 35-45 minutes!
