Crema Catalana, a sweet substitute for love!
February 14th, 2007
Ok, ok, it is Valentine’s Day, but not everyone is lucky enough to have a partner to share a romantic dinner with, or to offer a cute cuddly toy or flowers to! And so??
Well, believe it or not, there are things going on which favour those of us who are single! There’s even a shop in the centre of Barcelona where today only you can exchange a KISS for a surprise present! Or maybe you can start your own ‘free hugs’ campaign - something Barcelona is already familiar with!
Perhaps these are quite extreme ways to find affection, but sometimes it’s necessary to take the bull by its horns, you just need to use all of your resources and you’ll have some results!
If, however, you find yourself alone on this evening of love then you have 2 possibilities: ice-cream, or, if you are lucky enough to be in Barcelona, you must eat a wonderful and tasty Catalan Cream dessert, (or ‘Crema Catalana’). You’ve never heard about this dessert? It is a mixture of milk, eggs, lemon and some other delicious ingredients.
The top sometimes looks like it is burnt, but it is supposed to! This thick and sticky caramel crust hides all the tasty yellow cream! This is a deliciously decadent treat which is great for those days when you’re feeling sorry for yourself!!
So, even if you can’t celebrate being part of a lovey-dovey couple…at least you’ll keep your taste buds happy!!
