CHURROS y CHOCOLATE – The end to a perfect Barcelona night!!
February 7th, 2007Hello everybody!!
I feel the necessity to talk about my last Saturday night out in Barcelona. I had what I call the “perfect evening”! I’m not just talking about going out with friends and coming back home around 6am (actually, as most people who live in Barcelona do). What I’m talking about is much better!! A really, really fantastic evening that only happens every now and again (it’s difficult to keep up with the lack of sleep every weekend!!).
So, the evening started at 7 pm, meeting with friends in a bar in the city centre. We stayed for around 2 hours, having a few beers. Then, we decided that we had had enough beer and we went for dinner to a very nice restaurant. We ate pasta and pizza, accompanied by good red and rosé wine. Mmmmmm, we had an incredible dinner and we decided to continue with the evening’s entertainment…
we went to a pub at around 12 pm…you know, just more drinking and dancing
And finally, we still had energy to go out to one of the big clubs in Barcelona!
Up until to this point, it was a normal evening in Barcelona and my idea was to go home because I was very tired. However, my really good friend Pau had a very different idea about how the evening should go on. Actually, he decided that everybody had to go with him to have some breakfast!!! I wasn’t very sure about this, after all we had been out for around 10 hours already, but when we got to the “churrería” (the place where we eat “churros”), I changed my mind completely.
For those who don’t know what “churros” are, I can tell you that it is, without a doubt, one of the treasures of Barcelona and Spain. They are fried pastry treats, sometimes smothered in melted chocolate, which can be bought by the bag. So, I forgot that I was on the verge of falling asleep, and I started eating and eating and eating churros. Normally, people accompany churros with chocolate, thick, gluppy chocolate – it was gorgeous (and just what I needed after a very long night of dancing, eating and drinking)!
For sure, this is one of the things you absolutely have to do in Barcelona…just imagine going out from the disco and having some churros with chocolate before going to bed completely satisfied…or for the tireless people, to simply give you more energy to continue in the many afterbars. Of course churros are perhaps not the most ‘heathly’ option to have on a regular basis, so best to eat them in moderation ![]()
