Beautiful Barcelona

November 2nd, 2006

I don’t think there are enough words in my vocabulary to do Barcelona justice. It is THE most exhilarating city I have been to.

You can while away literally hours on the Ramblas alone, watching the amazing street performers, listening to wonderful musicians, grabbing something new and exciting to eat, and simply sitting on a bench and people watching.

…And then there is the beautiful beach…
…And the fantastic food…
…And the legendary nightlife…
…And the incredible architecture…
…And the wonderful weather…
…And the fascinating history…
…And the amazing art…
…And the irresistible shopping.

… And I could continue! I love the fact that in Barcelona there is always something going on, a traditional fiesta, an art show, a street play, a music event, yet it never feels stressful or hectic like other major cities. It might be because of Barcelona’s lovely warm climate, or the Spanish lifestyle, but Barcelona manages to be lively and relaxed at the same time!

As well as the friendly locals, in Barcelona, you come across people from all over the world. It is a wonderful experience to walk down the street and pass 10 different nationalities in the space of 10 minutes, all of whom are speaking Spanish or at least learning to speak Spanish! It means you will always find a friend to practice the language with and you will always have someone in the same boat as you!

I really cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed my time in Barcelona. Even when I was doing nothing, just strolling up and down the street, I would look up and spot mount Tibidabo overlooking the city, see the Mediterranean Sea in front of me, see the amazing spires of the Sagrada Familia peeking over the top of buildings, be able to hear a musician playing in a plaza around the corner.

Everything about Barcelona is unforgettable and I am already planning my next trip back!
