Barcelona’s Organic side, healthy eating in abundance

March 30th, 2007

Well, over the last few weeks I’ve made a very concerted effort to expand my palate and improve my general eating habits after stumbling on what must be one of Barcelona’s best kept secrets – at least where food is concerned.

After boring of ‘bocadillos’ I decided to search for something a bit different, which is when I found the ‘Organic Vegetarian Restaurant’  in the Raval district of the city centre. It’s not the most catchy of names, but the food is amazing, and it’s perfect for people like me who just want to eat and go.

The food is basically Medditerranean, with touches of India and The Middle East, and the prices are really good for the size of the portions you get. It’s opened my eyes to different types of restaurants in Barcelona and it’s given me the chance to plan ahead for the next time my vegetarian mates come and visit.

Barcelona has finally caught up with much of the rest of Europe, and offers a good selection of Vegetarian and Organic options, some of favourites being – ‘Govinda’  (a vegetarian Indian restaurant and ‘Venus’ (a delicatessen which offers vegetarian and meat options). There are also many ‘buffet’ style places in the city now (Lactuca, Fresco, Natura), where you can get some great grub for cheap.

I’m not saying that I’m prepared to give up the spicy chorizo, tasty buttifarra and crunchy ham croquettes, but I now know that Barcelona has plenty more to offer than I first realised and is most definitely the food-lover’s haven I first thought it was.
